OpinioNative

OpinioNative

OpinioNative needed to stand out as one of the only Māori-owned consultancy firms based here in Aotearoa, but with aspirations to reach other indigenous audiences around the world.

An independent Māori-owned consultancy with a mission to elevate indigenous knowledge, practices and frameworks. This kaupapa needed a tohu to exemplify their global aspirations for indigenous communities.

To represent OpinioNative’s role as a high level navigator for Māori, we sought to create a tohu that could both carry history and mana, and present with simplicity and clarity.

The resulting tohu takes the shape of a Huia’s feather crafted into a bold lettermark “O”, designed to stand strong alongside text, or on its own as a signature.

The huia feather is a prized taonga that represents leadership and mana for Māori, and as a quill it represents the written word. It’s a symbol that ties strongly to OpinioNative’s engagement with government and law.

To further reinforce the confident, contemporary presentation, we turned to the Huia again, creating a colour palette that references the colours of the bird. It’s striking orange (karaka) wattle, the deep black (mangu) of its body, and the soft creamy (kirīmi) white of its feather-tips.
